Reading Your Portfolio P&L on Investography

The portfolio P&L view on Investography shows your unrealised gains and losses in real time. Here is how to read each figure and what it means for your overall position.

Unrealised vs Realised P&L

Investography's portfolio tracker shows unrealised P&L — the profit or loss on positions you still hold, calculated as the difference between current market value and your cost basis. Realised P&L from closed positions is tracked separately in the Portfolio Transactions log available on Pro and Premium plans.

P&L Figures Explained

Live Price Updates

Portfolio values update in line with your plan's refresh rate: every 5 seconds for Premium, every minute for Pro, every 5 minutes for Starter and Free. After market hours, portfolio values use the last recorded close price from the previous session.

Focus on percentage P&L per holding rather than LKR P&L alone. A position showing a 500 LKR gain may be a 2 percent return on a large investment or a 15 percent return on a small one. Percentage normalises the comparison across positions of different sizes.

Portfolio Value at Close

After the CSE closes at 2:40pm SLST, the portfolio values shown reflect end-of-day close prices fetched from the market snapshots database. The total value you see at the end of each session is the official close-of-day valuation for your portfolio.
